Galen B. Toews, MD Collegiate Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
Professor of Microbiology and Immunology
Director Graduate Program in Immunology
Accepting Students
Research Interests:

Chemokine, cytokine and eicosanoid regulation of pulmonary fibrosis; pulmonary infections post bone-marrow transplant

Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Health Sciences
Research Interests:

Regulation of the innate immune response against bacterial pneumonia, Role of the eicosanoids and their receptors in pneumococcal pneumonia, Impact of second hand tobacco smoke in lung disease, Role of adiponectin and leptin in inflammation and infection in obesity

Professor of Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis Center/ Holtom-Garrett Neuroimmunology Program
Accepting Students
Research Interests:

Neuroimmunology; the Interplay between immune system and neural stem/progenitor cells in multiple sclerosis (MS); cytokine, neurotrophin production and neuroprotective mechanisms for neuroregeneration in MS. The mission is to enhance translational research by bridging basic research in neuroimmunology with human studies in MS

Professor of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases
Research Interests:

The Markovitz laboratory focuses on understanding how human cellular factors control the replication of viruses, and retroviruses in particular. These studies are performed both to understand the biology of viruses and to develop possible therapies for these important human pathogens, as well as to exploit the viruses as a mechanism for understanding human cellular biology.
